The Web Analyst's Code of Ethics
WAA History
The history of web analytics can be traced to 1993, when WebTrends was founded in Portland, Oregon. Analyses of log files was the main and only technique available at that time. By 1996 a number of companies such as NetGenesis, Accrue, Omniture, and WebSideStory got off the ground to declare the birth of the new industry.
The idea of a web analytics professional association as an organization for accumulation of wisdom and general promotion of new approaches had been in the air. However such an organization became possible only ten years after the "start" of the industry. An architect Bryan Eisenberg, web analytics consultant Andrew Edwards and web strategy consultant Jim Sterne founded WAA in 2004.
Web Analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of Internet data for the purposes of understanding and optimizing Web usage.
